Drowning III

They say to approach a drowning person
from behind so they don’t wrap their arms
around your neck and drag you underwater.

They say not to enter the water near
a drowning person because it could be lethal
for both of you. A drowning person will
try to use you for leverage to get air.

– – –

If you are drowning you will want to stretch
your arms out towards the nearest available person
and grab hold of them in a tight embrace.

If you are drowning you will not care if
the person attempting to rescue you
is having difficulty breathing. You will
remain focused on your own lack of breath.

– – –

Do not attempt to rescue a drowning person
if you are not a strong swimmer. You will be
pulled down underwater where you cannot breathe.

Do not attempt to rescue a drowning person
when no one else is present. If you are the only
person available you should proceed with caution
and understand a lifetime of guilt may follow
if the person drowns.
