To Drink Away Heartache

Take me down to your alcoholic jungle
to drown in rum and brandy, sink sorrows
in crystalline cups. Sloppy love dawns
on this floor, tunes cranked twang
’round the room, shake out the pain
held like raindrops from your hair.

Drip heartache, break memory apart now
crack it to tatters. Shatter that night.
Fracture every grief pent up in our bulk.
Shed weight, molt fur to the floor, release
and catch sight of night’s blackout. Grab
some stranger’s glance but it will never
be love, not again. You had it and threw it
back to the ocean, so look sharp, mate,
and drink up your gin.
